Got YA SRP..?

Here's some summer time trivia: Who wrote the theme song to the movie "Meatballs" in which Bill Murray starred?

It went something like this: "Are you ready for the summer? Are you ready for the good times?..."

Give up? Believe it or not it was Elmer Bernstein! Don't know who Mr. Bernstein is..? Go here to discover exactly what this man accomplished in his lifetime. I am amazed in all that he did. Though I didn't know him personally, his name is still a word I associate with greatness.

Well, I do hope everyone is ready for their summer. It's upon us (but not officially quite yet), what with everyone out in shorts and tank tops and flip flops (too bad that can't be library wear... le sigh). The air conditioner here at the library has yet to pause. I think we'll know its officially summer when we break out the water hose and dive into the swimming pools to get some real cool relief from the heat!

Coachella is very much looking forward to the summer because that means it's the start of our summer reading program! Woot! Although we do have something for the kiddos, we also have our regular fare for the teens naturally. We also have our expanded our adult program and with full intent, plan on getting at least 25 to 30 signed up for it (last year's adult program was only meant for 5... we had 13 sign up!!). All a teen or adult needs to do is just read two books every two weeks, fill out their biweekly form and turn it in to get a prize (water bottle, book light and so on).

I am hoping - very much so here - that other libraries are either getting ready or have started their program as well. I am also hoping - with fingers crossed - that they have included teens in their schedule. At Coachella we also have a weekly program that teens can participate in to have a chance at incentives they would not otherwise get normally (like those cool plush snakes the kiddos are getting this year). After several years of the same old book reports (and the same old teens!) we turned it into something different that we hope both the teens AND adults can enjoy in between their trips to the beach and TV surfing.

My decorations are just about set, forms and flyers getting done. All I need are the people and my little library will be filled to the brim with readers. Oh... just can't wait for that! Woot!

If you need something to do, see your local library. And teens, if your library has nothing to offer for you, let them know YOU want to be kept occupied this summer!

Until next time,
